Over the course of this school year I have been trying different ideas on how to make blog usage a significant component of the learning process in my class. Today, I am making two posts that ask questions regarding two movies that would be great to show in school, but unfortunately we only have 180 days and there just isn’t time to get to them and everything else. I would encourage you to watch these movies with your families and engage in discussion in this blog to further your understand about what we have been learning in class. This first post is asking about the film Hotel Rwanda directed by Terry George which is available for streaming on Netflix for those students with access to the service.
(1) What emotions do you believe the victims of the Rwandan Genocide would have been feeling throughout this ordeal? Why?
(2) Did the United Nations take appropriate actions during the crisis?
(3) President Clinton (who was the President of the United States during the Rwandan Genocide) asserts that his biggest failure as President was failing to take action on the Rwandan Genocide sooner; when do you think the United States should have became involved in the conflict and why?
Respond to any of the questions below. Just be clear which one you are responding to. Be forewarned that this film is rated PG13 and you should not view it without parental permission. I do recommend you watch it with your parents. Happy viewing!
